My name is Michael Karczewski but besides my family, literally nobody calls me Michael. So yeah, please just call me Mika! I am a 34-year-old Austrian with Polish roots who fell in love with a beautiful Korean woman in Sydney, Australia. After 8 long years of a long-distance relationship, Sujin and I decided that I would move to South Korea and settle down here with her. For me it was the perfect chance to get out of my comfort zone again and try something totally new. So here I am, facing a new adventure and building up my life here in Korea.
Currently, my biggest struggle is learning Korean. I have been studying Korean for a while, but so far.. somewhat half-heartedly and inconsistently. Especially my listening and speaking skills are, frankly speaking, extremely.. let’s say they have great potential for improvement! But since I decided to commit to moving here, it is finally time to learn Korean properly. Oh, did I mention that my parents-in-law are from Busan? I should probably pick up some of that Busan dialect as well!
Recently, I started making videos about my life as a foreigner in Korea, just talking about my life here and sharing my thoughts. I also want to build a bridge between Koreans and foreigners, showing Koreans how foreigners think and vice versa. But I try to keep it light, make the videos in an easy-going and humorous way. Also, as an Austrian ambassador for the Korea Association for Supporting Youth from Multicultural Families, I want to help open people’s minds and hearts to international couples and marriages. So, if you are interested in what I am doing here, I would greatly appreciate it if you would subscribe my channel on Youtube.com and like my page on Facebook.com. I am also very addicted to Instagram, so if you’d like to see pictures of me having a great time in Seoul – as well as my many adventures traveling around the different parts of South Korea - you should follow me on Instagram, too! My wife Sujin also runs a Youtube channel about international couples living in Korea, called Daldal.tv – definitely worth subscribing to! If you like our videos, please let us know in the comment section. We both would appreciate it a lot!
Thank you so much for visiting my website and for your interest in learning about life as a foreigner here in South Korea. 감사합니다! If you have any questions, always feel free to ask me whatever you are curious about, whether through my social media channels or via email (). I’ll try to answer everything to the best of my ability! Have a great day!
